Juz 26 (Al-Ahqaf Verse 1 Through Adh-Dariyaat Verse 30)
Here are 5 fruits 🍐 from the language of Quran:
1.) The root (ث - خ - ن) refers to the raising of something in order to weigh it and determine its heaviness or lightness. The verbal version of this is ثَخُنَ, which means “to weigh,” but can also mean “to become thick and viscous and therefore not flow easily.” Interestingly, a forbearant and easy-going person is also called ثَخِين. The word ثَخِين is used to refer to an unarmed person, so called because his/her movements are fewer because of fear that they have due to being unarmed. The Form IV version of this verb (أَثْخَنَ) means “to make heavy” (أَثْقَلَ). We see this usage in verse 47:4 of Surah Muhammad ﷺ:
فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَضَرْبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ *أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ* فَشُدُّوا۟ ٱلْوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنًّۢا بَعْدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَآءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلْحَرْبُ أَوْزَارَهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَا۟ بَعْضَكُم بِبَعْضٍۢ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن يُضِلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ (“So when you meet the disbelievers ˹in battle˺, strike ˹their˺ necks until *_you have thoroughly subdued them_*, then bind them firmly. Later ˹free them either as˺ an act of grace or by ransom until the war comes to an end. So will it be. Had Allah willed, He ˹Himself˺ could have inflicted punishment on them. But He does ˹this only to˺ test some of you by means of others. And those who are martyred in the cause of Allah, He will never render their deeds void”). In this ayah, this verse takes on a slightly different meaning, which is to increase in killing and subduing.
2.) The root (ت - س - ع) refers to the central concept of falling on one’s face (الكَبّ). From this root, we obtain the word تَعْسًا, which is seen in the Quran in one ayah: وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَتَعْسًۭا لَّهُمْ وَأَضَلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ (“As for the disbelievers, *_may they be doomed_* and may He render their deeds void”). In this ayah, تَعْسًا literally means “destruction and annihilation” (هَلَاك), so the meaning is a slightly different derived meaning from its root meaning, but there is a similar resemblance in the notion that those who are destroyed are the ones who are thrown on their faces (a depiction that is portrayed in another verse in the Quran).
3.) The root (ع - س - ل) has two primary root meanings: the first revolves around the meaning of disorderliness and chaos; the second revolves around the concept of something sweet and palatable. From the first root meaning of disorderliness, we obtain the word العَسَلَانُ, which refers to the intensity of the tremoring or vibration of a spear. From the second root meaning, we obtain the commonly-known word of عَسَل (“honey”) 🐝. Also from this root is the word عَسَّالَة, which is a beehive. Also from this root is the word عَاسِل (doer pattern), meaning to the one who extracts the honey from its hive. We see this word عَسَل used in verse 47:15 of Surah Muhammad ﷺ:
مَّثَلُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِى وُعِدَ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ فِيهَآ أَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّن مَّآءٍ غَيْرِ ءَاسِنٍۢ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّن لَّبَنٍۢ لَّمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُۥ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّنْ خَمْرٍۢ لَّذَّةٍۢ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّنْ *عَسَلٍۢ* مُّصَفًّى ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ كَمَنْ هُوَ خَـٰلِدٌۭ فِى ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَآءً حَمِيمًۭا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَآءَهُمْ (“The description of the Paradise promised to the righteous is that in it are rivers of fresh water, rivers of milk that never changes in taste, rivers of wine delicious to drink, and rivers of pure *_honey_*. There they will ˹also˺ have all kinds of fruit, and forgiveness from their Lord. ˹Can they be˺ like those who will stay in the Fire forever, left to drink boiling water that will tear apart their insides?”).
4.) The root (ق - ف - ل) has two primary root meanings: the first is that of returning after travel, and the second refers to the solidity and strength in something. As for the first root, we obtain the word قُفُول, which refers to returning home after travel. As for the second root, we obtain the word قَفِيل, which refers to dry wood 🪵. Also from this root, we obtain the word قَفْل, which refers to a lock 🔒 (its plural being أَقْفَال = “locks”), so called because a lock is usually solid and robust. Also from this root is the Form IV verb أَقْفَلَ, which means “to lock something.” We see this word used in verse 47:24 of Surah Muhammad ﷺ as such: أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَآ (“Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Or are there *_locks_* upon their hearts?”).
5.) The root (س - و - ل) has two root meanings: the ease and affluence of something, and the lowering of something. From this, we obtain the Form II verb سَوَّلَ - يُسَوِّلُ - تَسْوِيلٌ, which means “to entice and adorn” for the purpose of misleading someone. This is similar in idea to the Form II verb زَيَّنَ - يُزَيِّنُ - تَزْيِينٌ. This verb سَوَّلَ also means to adorn Truth, such that that which is naturally undesirable or repugnant is made to look pleasing to others. We see this usage in verse 47:25 of Surah Muhammad ﷺ as such: إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱرْتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَـٰرِهِم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَى ۙ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ *سَوَّلَ* لَهُمْ وَأَمْلَىٰ لَهُمْ (“Indeed, those who relapse ˹into disbelief˺ after ˹true˺ guidance has become clear to them, ˹it is˺ Satan ˹that˺ has tempted [*_has adorned for them and thereby tempted them_*] them, luring them with false hopes”). In this verse, the verb سَوَّلَ is used to refer to the deceptive tricks that Shaytan uses to make that which is inherently wrong appear to be right and beautiful, and he has made hypocrisy and disbelief appear beloved to them.
