USER EXPERIENCE (UX) & DESIGN

Fawakih is investing in building a culture that focuses on the user experience. This has been core to the Fawakih journey and success so far, when it comes to how the curriculum was developed and programming was built, with strong feedback loop and engagement of students, and an ear to the ground.

The next step to this journey is to ensure the delivery mechanism is intentionally designed to best serve the interface of the curriculum product with the end-user.

improve user EXPERIENCE

  • Understand, track and intentionally manage the user’s emotions (both positive and negative) in order to optimize their experience and ennable their progression on the Fawakih journey.

  • Closely review student feedback data, both verbal and anecdotal, as well as from survey results.

  • Run student focus group sessions to hear and understand the student experience and understand their response to current and future features.

      1. 1.) Inspired and motivated

      2. 2.) Safety and security (lack of fear and judgment)

      3. 3.) Love

        1. Alignment with core values

        2. Community and belonging

      4. 4.) Heard, understood, and cared for

      5. 5.) Happiness

      6. 6.) Hope and optimism

    2. Emotions to diminish (top 5)

      1. 1.) Overwhelmed

      2. 2.) Fear and intimidation

        1. “Arabic is too hard”

        2. “I’m not smart enough”

      3. 3.) Frustration (caused by lack of control in user or impression that there is a lack of care and concern from the organization)

        1. Due to speed of response or communication

          1. “I’m waiting on a response”

        2. Technology or academic lapses

          1. “It is unfair that I get questions wrong because I can’t see the harakat in the quizzes.”

      1. 3.) Anger | disappointment | upset

      2. 4.) Hopelessness

  • User Experience (UX)-driven design that results in a clean appearance and embeds Fawakih’s core values and beliefs.

  • Utilizes cutting-edge technology to provide an intuitive and simple navigation and learning process

  • Incorporates best practices and beauty in front-end design.

  • Address the variety of needs of user (so they feel heard and understood)

    • Handicaps and disabilities

      • Hearing (e.g., partially deaf, incorporates sub-titles)

      • Eyesight (e.g., colorblind, incorporates this into color scheme)

  • Design principles (elicit the right emotions from the user)

    • PROGRESSIVE DISCLOSURE

      • Simplifies user interfaces by revealing information and features in a step-by-step manner (avoid overwhelming students with too much material on a page)

      • Conversational Form - a form that offers one question at a time, and thus reduces cognitive load

    • MOBILE FIRST

      • Test out all front-end designs to ensure they work on a mobile interfact first, and then on desktop, eg., wireframe is done on mobile

        • Wireframe: basic visual guide that outlines the structure and layout of a website, application, or other digital product

        • This helps us build out the design vision before the ennabling technology. Eventually, the two must be in sync.

    • VISUAL HIERARCHY

      • Design principle that arranges elements on a page or screen to guide the viewer's eye and indicate the order of importance

      • Hamburger menu: a button with three horizontal lines that, when clicked or tapped, expands to reveal a hidden menu or navigation options.

    • BRANDING GUIDE

      • Comprehensive document that outlines a company's visual and verbal identity. It serves as a rulebook for how the brand should be represented across all platforms, ensuring consistency in its appearance and messaging

        • Elements like logos, colors, typography, imagery, voice, and tone are included in the Fawakih Branding Guide

NEXT STEPS:

  • [Review the above with Abdul and add additional key terminologies that will serve as the bedrock upon which the Fawakih team will communicate and build a culture of user experience within the organization.

  • Ensure decisions align with these principles, and when making prioritization decisions, the rationale is included to ensure ongoing alignment with Fawakih’s user-experience strategy, as informed by student feedback.
