powered check in, 10/13/25:
three courses right now
1.) 6 students in original cohort. Went up to 4B together. Then they started with teacher in Egypt with العربية بين يديك. and commentary of Ajrumiyyah. SUN for an hour.
2.) Yusif Conn has a class, they are beginning 3B. Three students.
3.) Hamza Hashmi: two students. But combining this and Yusif’s class.
4.) Bilal is doing 2B with three students. Much slower pace. gradual paced.
5.) Nasr Nance started 1A class, but fell through because not enough interest.
15 students sign up. half fizzle out. then everyone else slowly drops off. High attrition rate. ends up combining courses to save money.
originally started with a $10K grant from Fawakih. a few other grants (FISC). they have enough funds for another few months.
John ensures that everyone has access to lessons online.
Curriculum feedback:
Sections wherein reorganized charts (1A and 1B) or a different تقسيم (segmentation/categorization).
They did a lot more i’rab beyond fawakih material (breaking down sentences). so need more practice and application exercises of i’rab.
Sometimes condensed and/or too fast pace.
students asked for more exercises in 1A for more practice/reinforcement. Made more practices of pronouns and verbs etc. Eg more practice via فعُل verbs
At end of A semester, students feel nervous and feel insufficient in knowledge. B is more of reinforcement.
all did very well in finals. just fewer numbers.
final review in 3A was very helpful. Surah Yusuf first page. and first page of Surah Al Kahf.
3A: types of مصادر: they had difficulty with this. so made separate presentation on this. Also تمييز. they struggled with it. so need more reinforcement/exercises of these concepts.
students feel overwhelmed by “A” semester, they reinforce in “B” semester.
They do 5-6 sessions, then mid-review, then remaining sessions, then final review, then final exam. They have a bit more leniency in schedule.
All students buy their own books.
STEP 1:
Instructors should fill out the following form, including bio, background, your goals, passions, interests, and how you heard about us, any institutional affiliations, and years of experience.
Once this form is completed, the Fawakih team will provide access to additional resources, including access to the instructor portal, which includes the materials students will see, in addition to teaching materials, including slides and tips.
STEP 2:
Instructor takes the Placement Assessments via the link below. When taking these, they should indicate the name of the affiliated Fawakih-Powered institution, as well as forward them the results:
http://fawakih.org/assessment
STEP 3: Instructors will receive slides to teach from, and access to the course materials on the Fawakih learning portal. Once access is gained to the portal, instructors familiarize themselves with the Fawakih Curriculum and instructor slides.
These slides provide the following:
Save instructors time from having to make their own slides.
Save time within the class and help with pacing
Ensuring the standardization and adhering to the lesson at hand or quickly returning back to it if there are certain questions that go beyond the scope of the lesson.
Provide visuals to help keep students engaged.
STEP 4: Instructors must take all level 1A quizzes (or whichever level they are teaching)
Instructors take the 12 Level 1A quizzes, midterm, and final. This is normally done ahead of the semester, so that they have a good sense of the quizzes the students will be taking, and thus, they can offer better support.
These quizzes are an essential part of the Fawakih learning process, and thus, we require all instructors to take them and familiarize themselves with the assessment process.
STEP 5: Preparing to Teach
The more preparation an instructor puts in, the more likely that the Fawakih curriculum adoption will go well, particularly the first time they teach the material. In addition to the above, ahead of teaching, instructors are encouraged to:
Watch all the lesson videos that the students are required to watch ahead of the classes, as part of the Fawakih Inverted Model
Carefully look through the lesson in the textbook of PDF, including the exercises and the answer key.
Run through the full course slides and ensure they are familiar, not just with the content, but also with the pacing and animations.
Fawakih places over 1000 students a year and thus utilizes its effective system to place the students belonging to the Fawakih Powered institutions as part of a courtesy service.
Placements are at the very core of starting the powered program, to ensure students are starting at the right level for their journey.
STEP 1:
Carefully read the document below to familiarize yourself with the placement process:
STEP 2:
Students can be placed at any time, even before committing or registering for the class. We suggest sending this link to interested students as well as placing it on your website, to ensure students can start the placement process. They should indicate the name of your institution as well as the instructor (if confirmed) when taking the placement, so that you can receive the results:

STUDENT MANAGEMENT
Managing students is the most important part of the student experience:
STEP 1: Set up a whatsapp group to facilitate student communication. We have found this to be a quick and effective way to reduce any lapses in communication with students. (Include link for Fawakih’s tips on running a Quranic Arabic cohort whatsapp group). Include as admin relevant Fawakih team members that you are in touch with.
*Schools are encouraged to set up a WhatsApp group including parents.
STEP 2: Set up a roster for your cohort using this following instructions:
1.) Make a copy of the following template roster, label the roster as “1A [Institute Name]”. Note: include 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B, 2C rosters ‘as hidden’ for later.
2.) Email this copy to support@fawakih.com. Then, add all of your students' names and emails to the copy you've made.
3.) Ask all of your students to take the Initial Placement Assessment here: https://fawakih.org/initial
4.) Have all students forward their results to your instructors and team. Then, add their scores to the roster under the column "Initial Placement.”
Supporting Your Fawakih-Powered Journey!
Fawakih is committed to providing your powered location support throughout your journey. This is divided into three general phases:
1.) POWER UP: This is the phase in which the institution is gearing up to launch their Fawakih-Powered Program. They are finalizing details regarding dates, pace, instructor, registration, and ordering textbooks. Key team members and instructors are going through the onboarding and training process. Ideally, this process starts months ahead of a program start.
2.) POWER CHECK: in this phase, a program is running, and institutions are expected to check in and provide an update (sent to support@fawakih.com) to ensure everything is going smoothly and if anything else is needed from the Fawakih team. It is recommended that this check happens within a few weeks of the program starting, so that adjustments can be made early. Report should include:
Link to updated roster and student quiz completion rate
Placement challenges (At-risk students? Higher placements?)
Instructor Curriculum progress
Any learnings (challenges, surprises)
Inspiring stories? Reflections?
3.) POWER DOWN: in this phase, a semester or program has come to an end, and we ensure that students have clarity as to the next steps of their journey, whether they are continuing with the local program or joining Fawakih online. This is also when surveys are reviewed.
Celebration, certificate
Identify top students
Next steps for institution, students.
IMPORTANT POWER-UP ACTION ITEMS
1.) Your primary email for anything you may need is support@fawakih.com
2.) We ask each institution to create an internal WhatsApp group with their liaison to Fawakih, any instructors that will be teaching, as well as key admin involved.
Add your primary liaison as an admin so that they may add on any additional Fawakih team members as necessary.
Include the following: your course dates, websites, and any other relevant info in the whatsapp group, specifically copy and paste the following into your WhatsApp group description:
Institutional Website & Physical Address:
Link to roster: (google drive)
Link to Student Whatsapp group(s):
Course Start & End Dates:
Instructor Name(s) full names and levels they teach:
3.) Instructor Support WhatsApp group: please join this whatsapp group to be able to collaborate with your fellow Fawakih instructors. Teaching can often be challenging and even lonely at times. Whereas, some have administrative and academic support, there are other instructors that may not have the support (and in some cases, the confidence) to effectively serve their students. Here, we have created a welcoming community of fellow Quranic Arabic instructors. You can share any challenges you’ve had with students or the curriculum overall, in order to get feedback from your peers who may have overcome similar issues or may also be facing them.
