Fawakih Powered Tanwir Meeting, 10/8/25:
Tanwir started with Fawakih powered 2022-2024
now in 2025, they are using Fawakih hybrid approach
enhancements fawakih provides lots of resources
including enhancement/reinforcement quizzes
but students don’t take advantage of their quizzes
they are striving for admin specifically for educational classes, someone who reaches out to them when they are behing and not using the resources, so they would like to get an admin because instructors don’t have the time/bandwidth.
Year 1, Semester 1: they don’t use Fawakih. they do English Tafsir, basic things, in-house Tanwir workbook: hadith (زاد الطالبين); they memorize 40 Ahadith, and they also do nahw Das-sabaq in Urdu, for first ten lessons in grammar. theya re required to do these, otherwise, kicked out.
hey also force them to make their own flashcards. they don’t have memrise ones to rely on. so they are actually learning now.
no recordings for them. because of that, there’s a lot more attendance.
they also have their own quizzes.
Year 1, Semester 2: (Fawakih 2A): 80 students in our program. they would do period 1 nahw, period 2 sarf, and period 3 text. but now they find it dry, and now they have changed it.
Year 2: Fawakih Level 3A and Enrichment Texts
Now, they have first period (75 minutes) nahw and sarf and no reading for 3A. and now they do their own seerah text for text analysis for second period.
And third person is english Tafsir. “Enrichment session.”
they have to make their own vocab list and verbal vocab test every week, forced to do this to progress forward.
they are putting more work in now.
Biggest issue with Fawakih curriculum: ANSWER KEY on the next page doesn’t help. better to take it out. they now have taken out answer key in their Tanwir in-house curriculum, leads to better retention rates.
suggestion: take out answer key, leads to better retention rates
Year 3/Post-Grad: cohort of 21 students, able to read ibn juzayy’s Muqadimmah, and 70% able to read without harakat. they did 1A-3A Fawakih. some of them studied 4A.
Feedback:
1.) When students are forced to come to class and do their own vocab lists etc, it works.
2.) Curriculum is dry, needs a bit of spice and flavor.
3.) when you do everything in-person, the cohort must be limited. unfeasible to have more than 20 students per cohort. but preferred to have max 15.
Once a week Tuesdays for 3 hours. so part time.
Their average student age is 23.
Let’s continue how Tanwir is doing, and we can cross the bridge after Ramadan.
