Student Kickoff Event
Getting off to a strong start is critical for your Quranic Arabic cohort. The first component is orienting students ahead of their journey, given the level of details and instruction they need, is important to allocate time for. In addition to orienting students on the nuts and bolts of the program and curriculum, the second compontent is to inspire, motivate, and set the right mindset for starting a journey like this.
Here are parameters for the orientation that we recommend, based on supporting many cohorts.
1.) Orientation starts virtually on the student whatsapp group, so that time can be saved in the in-person orientation. In addition to the instructor introducing themselves on the whatsapp group and sharing their personal background as well as some unique things about themselves and their journey, each student should be requested to introduce themselves to the following guidelines: https://fawakih.org/introductions
2.) Allocate a minimum of one hour for the actual orientation portion, including at least 15 minutes for Q&A. An additional 30 minutes or more should be given for motivating students and team-building activities (including introductions).
The orientation includes the following topics:
Journey overview
Introductions
Schedule
Contact information
Student resources (online and physical)
Online Arabic portal and testing system
Textbooks and flashcards
Memrise vocab learning system
