lesson 1

[6/6/22] PG. 29: The second sentence should read كانَتْ عادٌ (where عادٌ has a tanwīn dhamma).


LESSON 2

[6/6/22] PG. 52: The Arabic title should be كُفرانُ ثَمُودَ (i.e., not عادٍ).

[6/6/22] PG. 54: The word should be yakfihim as shown below:

[7/5/22] PG. 56: Exercise #6 - the word كِفايَة should end with a tanwin fatha (i.e., كِفايَةً) because it is ism inna and therefore mansub

[7/30/22] PG 89 - In the explanation of حَيْثُ, it should read: “It is an atypical ظرف مكان” (not زمان).

[7/30/22] PG. 130 - On the first line, the word آخر should end in a single dhamma (the word is غير المنصرف)

[7/30/22] PG. 130 - On the last line of page 130, the verbs يقوم, يقعد, and ينام should each be مضارع منصوب (i.e., end with a fatha).

[7/30/22] PG. 130 - On the line with blank #8, the phrase كل أحيانا should be written as كُلِّ أَحْيانٍ.

[7/30/22] PG. 132 - Answer #10 should be marfu‘ (i.e., المَقْصُودُ); Answer #16 should end with a single kasra (not a tanween kasra)


LESSON 7

[7/30/22] PG. 173 - On line 6, the phrase ولكن should be vowelled وَلَكِنَّ (the nun should have a shadda with a fatha).

[7/30/22] PG. 173 - On line 7, the phrase لم ينفعهم should have a sukun on the letter ع, i.e., لَمْ يَنْفَعْهُمْ


LESSON 8

[8/2/22] PG. 181: On the second line of the transcript, the word المُتَلَظِّظِيْنَ should be written المُتَلَذِّذِيْنَ (the root is ل - ذ - ذ).

[8/2/22] PG. 181: On line 5, the word آيَة (next to blank #9) should end in a dhamma, i.e., آيَةُ.

[8/2/22] PG. 181: There are a few periods that were accidentally added: after blanks #10, 11, and 12.

[8/2/22] PG. 187: The word “emend” is correct. It is similar to “amend” in that it can refer to a change. However, amend generally means to change for the better whereas emend is to fix an error. Also, emend is used specifically for text while amend is not restrict to text.

[8/2/22] PG. 191: The words jannāt and ‘uyūn should not be underlined at all (i.e., it is not a sifa-mawsuf construction).

[8/2/22] PG. 196/198: On line 2, the word أبلغكم should be vowelled أُبَلِّغُكُمْ (i.e. a form II verb, not form I). Also, the word رسالات should end with a single kasra (not a fatha).

[4/20/22] PG. 196: On line 4, there should be a damma on the ت of تطيعونني (i.e., the verb is the form IV):

[8/16/22] PG. 226: The verb طمع should be voweled طَمِعَ in the past tense (i.e. a kasra on the م)

[8/16/22] PG. 236: The translation of the example verse 17:111 should read “…nor has taken a partner…”

[8/16/22] PG. 240: The translations of verse 79 are missing. They are provided below:

  • Pickthal: “And Who feedeth me and watereth me.”

  • Arberry: “and Himself gives me to eat and drink,”

  • Asad: “and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink,”


LESSON 11

[8/23/22] PG. 250:

  • The plural of “deviators” is غاوُونَ (with a dhamma on the first waw)

  • The verb اِخْتَصَمَ means “to quarrel” not “to obey”

  • The verbs حلف, مكر, and شعر are form I verbs.

[8/23/22] PG. 252: The following are corrections to the transcript:

  • Line 1 - فاتَّقِ should be فاتَّقُوا (plural command, not singular)

  • Line 4 - غَفُورٌ should be الغَفُورُ (definite)

  • Line 5 - أَكْثَرُ should be أَكْثَرَ (mansub because it is the khabr of kana from line 4)
